Artist's Statement
I strive to make a strong and direct connection with those who view my work, expressing passion, isolation and loss, or simply the beauty of form and color. I believe that until art has been shared it is not complete. The relationship between painter and viewer is vital and enriching, it creates a pure energy. It validates the work and our collective humanity.
The challenge of capturing the essence of a person in a single image is compelling. I often paint from black and white thumbnails found in print. Photos that are selected to represent the life of a loved one, and photos depicting a pivotal moment in a life are always seductive.
The recent CinemaScope series is an exploration of film and TV imagery and how it affects perceptions of ourselves and society.
