Artist's Statement
I strive to make a direct connection with those who view my work. Passion, isolation and loss. Ironies, possibility. Or simply the beauty of form and color. Until a fellow observer has shared one of my works, it is not complete. It awaits their shades of meaning, their unique sensibility, to take on a stronger, more vibrant energy. This shared creativity and imagination can only animate the art and, hopefully, deepen our collective humanity.

The challenge of capturing the essence of an individual in a single image is compelling. I often paint from black and white thumbnails found in print—photos representing the life of a loved one, depicting a pivotal moment. I find them irresistibly seductive.

My recent “CinemaScope” oil series explores film and TV imagery. How does such ubiquitous visual input tinge our perceptions of self and society? My new acrylic works combine historical figures with modern symbolism, presenting droll ironies and suggesting wry possibilities.
